Painful osteitis fibrosa cystica associated with parathyroid adenoma by Juan Jose Santivañez, MD, General surgeon in Journal of Clinical Case Reports, Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is a common endocrine disorder characterized by hypercalcemia and elevated or abnormally normal parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels, resulting from the excessive secretion of PTH by one or more parathyroid glands. In this report, we emphasize the significance of a proper approach when dealing with bone lesions. Our patient experienced a 4-month history of incapacitating pain in her right hip, leading to serious difficulty in walking. An MRI revealed multiple bone lesions, initially raising suspicion of plasma cell neoplasia. A comprehensive evaluation of the phosphocalcic panel is always essential to rule out conditions like primary hyperparathyroidism as the underlying cause of the lesions, as seen in this case.
