  Treatment-related Acute Myeloid Leukemia Following Capecitabine Chemotherapy: A case report by Omid Arasteh in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Background:  Chemotherapy of cancers can have serious and dangerous side effects, of which the occurrence of secondary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is one of them. Treatment-related AML (t-AML) is an example of secondary AML, that usually occurs in patients who have been previously treated with chemotherapeutic regimens that contain Alkylating agents, Topoisomerase inhibitors, Anthracyclines and maybe other drugs like fluorouracil derivatives. Several causes have been proposed for the occurrence of t-AML.
