Retroperitoneal cystic Lymphangioma in adulthood – A case report by Urânia Fernandes in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Retroperitoneal cystic Lymphangioma in adulthood – A case report by Urânia Fernandes in Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract Background : Cystic lymphangioma is a benign lymphatic system malformation, rarely diagnosed in adulthood. Head and neck are commonly affected and abdominal location is rare. Its presentation ranges from asymptomatic to severe symptoms (bleeding, rupture, infection, volvulus). The diagnosis is often made after surgery and confirmed by histopathological examination. Methods : A case report of a 57-year healthy female patient presented with abdominal pain, postprandial fullness, sporadic vomit and imaging revealing a 9-centimeter retroperitoneal cyst is described. Results : She was submitted to surgery and histology confirmed the diagnosis of cystic lymphangioma. Conclusion : Retroperitoneal cystic lymphangioma is a very rare disease. Preoperative diagnosis is challenging and definitive treatment is surgical resection in...

Child sexual abuse. A Medical and health problem in Jesús Cuéllar Álvarez by Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences

Child sexual abuse. A Medical and health problem in Jesús Cuéllar Álvarez by Journal of Clinical Case Reports Medical Images and Health Sciences Abstract This article analyzes the psychosocial complexity of child sexual abuse from a medical perspective, through a theoretical review of the main considerations on the subject. The lack of preparation of the general medical personnel for the diagnosis and treatment of cases is recognized, as well as in mastering the care protocols for these victims and their families. That is why a group of practical considerations are offered for the care of these children and their families, from primary health care services.     Keywords:  child sexual abuse; primary health care; children; sexual violence Development Child sexual abuse is a serious public health problem and a very frequent reason for consultation in primary care. It occurs in all cultures and societies and in any social stratum, constituting a universal and complex...

A Rare Metachronous Colonic Volvulus by Philip Ade Ekhaiyeme in Journal of Clinical Case Reports MedicaI Images and Health Sciences

A Rare Metachronous Colonic Volvulus by Philip Ade Ekhaiyeme in Journal of Clinical Case Reports MedicaI Images and Health Sciences  Abstract Introduction : Colonic volvulus is a common cause of large bowel obstruction with the sigmoid colon most commonly affected. Volvulus of the transverse colon is an uncommon occurrence. Rarer still is a transverse colon volvulus developing after surgery for a sigmoid colon volvulus. Early diagnosis is critical as delay in detection and intervention is associated with the risk of complications – perforation, peritonitis, and death. We discuss the case of an 86-year-old man presenting with features of large bowel obstruction 14 months following a sigmoid colectomy for a sigmoid colon volvulus. An erect abdominal radiograph showed massively dilated large bowel loops with multiple air-fluid levels, a gasless pelvis, and no free air under the diaphragm. Obstruction did not resolve with initial non-operative measures necessitating surgical in...

Subclavian Steal Syndrome by JAYESH TRIVEDI in Journal of Clinical Case Reports MedicaI Images and Health Sciences

Subclavian Steal Syndrome by JAYESH TRIVEDI in Journal of Clinical Case Reports MedicaI Images and Health Sciences INTRODUCTION The subclavian steal syndrome is characterized by subclavian artery stenosis which is proximal to the origin of the vertebral artery.  The subclavian artery steals reverse-flow blood from the vertebrobasilar artery circulation to supply the arm on exertion, resulting in vertebrobasilar insufficiency.  The vertebrobasilar arterial system supplies both the peripheral and central auditory and vestibular systems, in subclavian steal syndrome, neurological symptoms are expected due to VBI (vertebrobasilar insufficiency). Coronary variant of subclavian-vertebral artery steal syndrome which occur as adverse effect of coronary artery bypass while using the arm on the same side of the internal mammary artery graft used to bypass the narrowed or obstructed coronary vessel. This variant results in symptoms of cardiac ischemia like angina or can also caus...

Case Report- A challenging case of severe Asherman’s syndrome in Reproductive MedicineFollowed by twin delivery by Lamiya Mohiyiddeen in Journal of Clinical Case Reports MedicaI Images and Health Sciences

Case Report- A challenging case of severe Asherman’s syndrome in Reproductive MedicineFollowed by twin delivery by Lamiya Mohiyiddeen in Journal of Clinical Case Reports MedicaI Images and Health Sciences  INTRODUCTION This is a case report of a severe case of Asherman’s Syndrome who underwent multiple hysteroscopic procedures and embryo transfers over a span of 10 years. Her last embryo transfer was successful after the 5 th  hysteroscopy and high dose estrogen treatment. She delivered preterm twin babies. CASE REPORT Mrs. A was first seen with infertility and secondary amenorrhea. She was nulliparous with history of two surgical evacuations. Her pelvic scan showed very thin endometrium of 2.5mm. She had hysteroscopy done 3 times to manage intrauterine adhesions in other centers. When she then attended to start IVF treatment at St. Mary’s her FSH/LH level was very high and she was diagnosed premature ovarian failure. She underwent In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycle ...

Intracellular free calcium concentration and oxidative damage in erythrocytes from workers occupationally exposed to organophosphate pesticides by Martha-Angelica Quintanar-Escorza in Journal of Clinical Case Reports MedicaI Images and Health Sciences

Intracellular free calcium concentration and oxidative damage in erythrocytes from workers occupationally exposed to organophosphate pesticides by Martha-Angelica Quintanar-Escorza in Journal of Clinical Case Reports MedicaI Images and Health Sciences  Abstract Background:  Organophosphate (OP) pesticides inhibit the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in the central nervous system, causing changes in the oxidative state that could be considered as another mechanism of toxicity in erythrocytes related to the concentration of free intracellular calcium ([Ca2 +] i). Aims:  In the present work, the parameters of the oxidative state and [Ca2+]i were evaluated in workers occupationally exposed to OP. Methods:  A comparative and cross-sectional study was conducted in exposed and not exposed to organophosphate pesticides in their workplace and working day (31 subjects per group). In the case of exposure, selected workers with an exposure ≥5 years and with an ac...
